My take on Running for cardio.

A few cheeky scamps have asked some very good questions with regards to my cardio methodology. As such i would like to create a quick post to clear a few things up.

I do cardio for a few reasons:
  • Keep my ticker a happy bunny
  • Stoke up my metabolism
  • Keep bodyfat at bay
All of the above needs to be done whilst PRESERVING MUSCLE. I do not subscribe to the theory that more is better, especially when it comes to cardio and running especially. I don't run set distances, i merely don my heart rate monitor and aim to fall into a desired range for x ammount of mins. If i go out of the range I slow down! intense cardio on an empty stomach will leave you looking like a butchers pencil in no time. Drawing comparisons from real living breathing examples is always good practice in my opinion.

Happy? Yes - Muscular? No

Im pretty much running on fumes when i wake in the morning. The cottage cheese and oils before bed have long since burnt out and now im ready tap into my fat stores. No carbs will get in my way! Any carbs floating round the system before cardio will be used for fuel and as such this is the reason i perfer low intensity unfueled cardio. Easy on the muscle, a little harder on the fat.
